Hanol Spiritual and Cultural Movement of Art

Hanol Spiritual and Cultural Movement of Art refers to a spiritual reflection of Hanol Philosophy in Art that introduces a new direction for the evolution of the spiritual culture and religious innovation that transcend traditional religious customs and formalities. It is a new type of evolved spiritual art and religious culture through which anyone can experience Enlightenment and Awakening through art, without religious obligation.

Hanol-gyo is an unconventional religion as it encourages other religions and respects their way of pursuing Truth. This is due to its founding principle and belief that “all proper religion has the same root and the same destination, the Truth”. Hanol-gyo has introduced the Hanol Spiritual and Cultural Movement of Art for non-believers and the believers of other religion to experience the philosophy of Hanol, without any religious obligation.

(* Hanol-gyo is a Korean traditional religion based on the national founding philosophy of Korea which foresaw the possibility of an evolution in human consciousness 5000 years ago; it laid the spiritual foundation for the old Korean empire Gochosun).

After the 50th anniversary, Hanol-gyo faced the major challenge of social turmoil such as the national crisis of the presidential impeachment and the North Korean nuclear missile confrontation. Especially, the religious taxation was imposed for the first time in Korean history.

In order to overcome the hardship of the conventional system and the limits of the old ways of spirituality, the board officially requested that the former leader, Sewon, help reform the organization again.

After accepting the responsibility of the leadership, he proposed a new way of spiritual reformation: Hanol Spiritual & Cultural Movement of Art. It is a new form of spiritual movement and a new way of experiencing religion without religious obligation by integrating Art and Spirituality.

After the official request of Hanol-gyo, the artist provided his artworks [Optical Awakening], as a spiritual device for the Hanol Spiritual & Cultural Movement of Art which enabled the audience to experience the Hanol religion and its philosophy without any conventional religious activity.

According to the guide to Trans-Art, "Optical Awakening" can be regarded as an indirect experience of 'Spiritual Transcendence' and a 'Glimpse of Enlightenment' in the form of artthe ‘Preview of the Ego dis-identification’ which entails the separation of Mind (Ego) & Consciousness (True Nature).

His art provided a basis for the 1st and the 2nd reformation of Hanol-gyo.

Regardless of personal religious belief, anyone can participate in the Hanol Spiritual and Cultural Movement of Art.

Through Optical Awakening, the participants and viewers, can easily learn 'what spiritual awakening is' beyond the concept of belief.

Hanol Spiritual and Cultural Art, presented new direction for religious innovation and the evolution of spiritual culture that transcends customs and formalities.

Now, Hanol-gyo’s evolutionary endeavor is opening up new paths in the evolution of religion by the convergence of Art and Religion.

Trans-Art came to play a key role in the reformation of Hanol-gyo showing a new perspective in religious innovation and spiritual evolution.
